With Season 7 airing early next month, there have been little bits of information revealed about what’s to come. HBO Programming President Casey Bloys confirmed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that Season 8 of Game Of Thrones will be the last season and there’s a high chance it would air in 2019.
When asked if the final episodes [Season 8] would air in 2018 or 2019, he replied “Yeah. They [ referring to showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss] have to write the episodes and figure out the production schedule. We’ll have a better sense of that once they get further into the writing.” If truly the final season is going to air in 2019, then we are definitely in for a long wait and knowing Game Of Thrones, the last episode of Season 7 will most likely be a cliffhanger making it harder for fans to wait that long for the final season — It’ll be pure torture.
At an SXSW panel, Benioff said “It’s only going to be six episodes for the final season. From the beginning we’ve wanted to tell a 70-hour movie. It will turn out to be a 73-hour movie, but it’s stayed relatively the same of having the beginning, middle and now we’re coming to the end. It would have been really tough if we lost any core cast members along the way, I’m very happy we’ve kept everyone and we get to finish it the way we want to.”
Anyway, brace yourself as we might be waiting till 2019 to see the final season of Game Of Thrones.
