At E3 2016, Square Enix revealed a VR shooter mode demo for FFXV which was meant to be released to the public later on but unfortunately that’s not going to happen anymore.
The VR mode was meant to put players in the actual position of Prompto who is one of the main characters in the game so we get to experience everything he’s facing to the fullest. It puts you in a first person pesperctive while you shoot guns at one spot. Seeing that you can’t walk around, there was the added option of warping.
Square Enix issued a statement via (Gamespot) stating “Final Fantasy XV: VR Experience at E3 2016 was a technology demo that we showcased. Since then, we have learned much from the technology and have leveraged our learnings from the Episode Prompto DLC. The result of that is our first PlayStation VR title, Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV”.
It was made clear that the only players who would experience the VR mode are those who actually got to preview it at the showcase as Lead designer of FFXV Wan Hazmer stated at a PlayStation Experience that VR mode will not be made playable for everyone. (via sirus gaming) “The Prompto Shooting game was actually a showcase back then. It was just to showcase the power of the VR”.
While players won’t get to experience the Prompto VR mode, they will get to experience a VR mode in the upcoming Monsters of the deep Final Fantasy fishing game which doesn’t require the maim Final Fantasy game to play as it’ll be a standalone game.
